Dumpster Rental in Erie

From the bayfront to the east side, downtown to the west side: roll-off delivery across the city, with the City’s dumpster approval handled before the truck rolls.

I-79 runs straight up to the Bayfront Parkway, I-90 crosses just south of the city, and Peach and State streets carry you from the interstate to the lake, so most of Erie is a short run for our trucks. Call before noon and the container is usually on your driveway that afternoon, once the City has signed off on it.

Erie’s mix of century-old bayfront homes, downtown commercial buildings and post-war houses on the east and west sides throws up every kind of job. We deliver 10 to 40-yard dumpsters across all of it, set them on boards to protect driveways, and quote a flat price before you commit. One thing is different here from most places we serve: the City wants to approve every temporary dumpster, even one on your own driveway, and we take care of that as part of the booking.

Do I need a permit in Erie?

The City of Erie is stricter than its neighbours. City Code § 1129.03, item QOL-10, says each temporary dumpster, whether it is placed on private property, in a public right-of-way or on any other City property, must have the City of Erie’s prior approval, and the quality-of-life ticket for skipping it is $100; an unpaid ticket goes to the Magisterial District Judge, where a conviction under § 1129.10 carries $300 to $1,000. QOL-35 carries the same $100 ticket for anything that obstructs a street, alley, driveway apron or sidewalk. The code does not say which office gives the approval and the City publishes no form, fee or time limit for it, so before a drop we call Code Enforcement (City Hall Room 407, 626 State Street, (814) 870-1473) or the Bureau of Engineering (Room 400, (814) 870-1371). If a construction job has to close the sidewalk, that is a separate sidewalk closure permit from the Bureau of Engineering under § 719.11, good for up to 90 days with one 90-day extension, and a container taking metered spaces needs the Erie Parking Authority on board. We handle the calls as part of your booking.

FAQ

Erie dumpster rental questions

  • Is a permit needed for a dumpster in Erie?
Yes, even on your own driveway: City Code § 1129.03 (QOL-10) requires the City’s prior approval for every temporary dumpster, with a $100 ticket if it is skipped. The City publishes no form or fee, so we clear it with Code Enforcement ((814) 870-1473) or Engineering ((814) 870-1371) before we deliver.
  • Can you deliver a dumpster the same day in Erie?
Usually, yes, once the City has approved the placement. Most of Erie is a short run up I-79 or Peach Street; call before noon and we will aim for that afternoon.
  • What size do most Erie homeowners take?
A 20-yard for cleanouts and remodels; a 10-yard for heavy debris like shingles, brick and plaster from an older bayfront house. See our sizes page.
  • Do you serve all Erie ZIP codes?
Yes, every 165xx ZIP in the city, plus Wesleyville and Lawrence Park next door.
