Frequently Asked Questions

  • What size dumpster do I need?
Most home cleanouts and remodels fit a 15 or 20-yard container; heavy debris like concrete, dirt and shingles goes in a 10 or 15-yard because of weight; renovations and new builds take a 30 or 40-yard. Describe the job and we size it on the phone, or see our dumpster sizes page.
  • How much does dumpster rental cost in Erie?
We quote one flat price up front based on the container size and the material. It includes delivery, the rental period, pickup and a disposal weight allowance; the only possible extra is the per-ton overage rate we state on the same quote. Call (814) 679-3372 for a number in one call.
  • Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Erie?
In the City of Erie, yes, even on your own driveway: City Code § 1129.03 (QOL-10) requires the City’s prior approval for every temporary dumpster, with a $100 ticket if it is skipped. The City publishes no form or fee, so we clear it with Code Enforcement or the Bureau of Engineering before we deliver. Our permit guide has the details and the township rules.
  • How fast can you deliver?
Call before noon and we can usually deliver the same afternoon across Erie, Millcreek, Summit, Lawrence Park and Harborcreek; inside the City of Erie an early call gives us time to get the City’s approval. Otherwise, next day.
  • How long can I keep the dumpster?
As long as your project needs in most places; most home rentals run three to seven days and contractors keep containers for weeks with swaps. Harborcreek limits a dumpster to two consecutive months a year unless a permit is open, and North East and Waterford boroughs work in 30-day permits, so we set the dates to fit the town.
  • What can’t go in the dumpster?
Pennsylvania keeps TVs and computers out of the trash, and landfills refuse lead-acid batteries, loads that are mostly leaves, free liquids and hazardous waste. Tires, refrigerant appliances with the gas in and asbestos stay out too. Oil-based paint goes to an Erie County collection day. Our guide lists where each item goes.
  • Where does the waste go?
To Lake View Landfill on Robison Road East, which the County says is the only landfill operating in Erie County, or the Erie transfer station on West 16th Street, both inside the County’s solid waste plan. Clean green waste goes to a compost site. The City’s curbside service will not take construction materials, so a roll-off is the practical route.
  • Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We set the container down rather than dragging it and put boards under the rails on request. Tell us if the surface is new or decorative and we will plan the placement around it.
  • What are the rules in Millcreek, Harborcreek and the other townships?
Each one is different. Millcreek, Fairview, McKean, Girard and Lawrence Park publish no dumpster permit. Harborcreek: temporary use only, two consecutive months a year, never in the road. Summit: construction dumpsters exempt from screening rules. North East Borough: 30-day zoning permit. Waterford Borough: 30 days a year for temporary containers. Edinboro: limits who may haul garbage in the borough. Each service-area page states what the town publishes and who to ring.
  • Do you offer junk removal as well as dumpsters?
Yes. Our junk removal crew loads, hauls and disposes of furniture, appliances and whole-house cleanouts, priced by the load with a firm quote on site.
  • How much space does the truck need?
About 60 feet of straight clearance to back in and roll the container off, and roughly 14 feet of overhead clearance, free of low wires and branches. Send a photo of the spot if you are unsure.
  • Can I fill it above the top?
No. The load must be level with the top rail so the truck can tarp it and travel legally. We will ask you to level an overfilled container before we haul it.
  • What happens if I go over the weight allowance?
You pay the per-ton overage rate we quoted when you booked, nothing more. Light loads rarely get near the allowance; heavy loads are why we size concrete, dirt and shingles into smaller containers.
  • Do you serve outside Erie?
Yes: Millcreek, Harborcreek, Fairview, Summit, Lawrence Park, McKean, Girard, Waterford, Edinboro, North East and Corry, across Erie County. See the service area.
